    MEC for Human Settlements Paul Mashatile to address ICT leaders

    MEC for Human Settlements and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Paul Mashatile has addressed leaders in the ICT industry at an Information Technology Association of South Africa (ITA) breakfast briefing on Thursday March 31, 2016.

    MEC Mashatile elaborated on his vision for human settlements and local government, having recently been appointed to the position, and how the IT industry can play a critical role.
    “ICT is an enabler for Government in improving the lives of people” Paul Mashatile said.

    More than 60 guests attended the event, so to discuss the big role the IT Industry can play in the efficient running of Human Settlements Government Services in Gauteng.

    Indeed, Gauteng – The Smart Province is underpinned by technology in modernizing service delivery and culture.

    The ICT industry needs to be proactive in supporting government initiatives on human settlements delivery.

    Therefore, accurate and relevant data through technology in human settlements will contribute to efficient delivery of houses.

    The ITA, as the leading ICT industry body, has recognised the role the association plays in assisting the provincial government achieve its vision. The ITA will bring together leaders in the ICT industry to engage with MEC Mashatile on key issues and projects.

    ITA president Sunil Geness said: “We as the ITA are proud to host MEC Mashatile at what promises to be a robust and informative discussion around the ICT industry’s critical role in human settlements in particular and the province’s growth path in general. We believe that our members have a critical role to play in supporting skills development in challenged communities in the province.”

    Megacity in Gauteng

    Since 1994, the Gauteng government has provided nearly a million housing opportunities to people of the province. As more residents flock to the province in search of economic opportunities, the provincial government has recognized the need to respond according.

    Mega human settlements and new post-apartheid cities that are being built at Savannah City, Sandton City, Steyn City, Waterfall City, Tshwane West Capital, and Africa Gateway in Centurion.
