ITA CONSTITUTION

ITA promotes the maintenance of high standards of IT industry technical skills in accordance with international trends.

The Information Technology Association (ITA), founded in 1934, merged with the IT Users Council in mid-2000, is the official trade and employer body of the Information Technology Industry in South Africa. The ITA represents more than 200 companies concerned with the supply of information technology equipment, systems, software and services. Prominent members include Microsoft SA, Siemens, SAP, Axiz, IBM, etc.

The ITA operates through an elected Executive Council (EXCO) and three specialist sector divisions:

  • Information Technology Users Council (ITUC).
  • Recruitment Consultancy Services Group (ITARCS).
  • Producer Environmental Group (ITAPEG)

The ITA works in close liaison with government, consumers and other specialist organizations. The ITA also has a longstanding commitment to human resource development within the industry. Through its close association with the MICT SETA, the ITA promotes the maintenance of high standards of IT industry technical skills in accordance with international trends.

The purpose of the ITA as stated in its Constitution (Appendix A) is to “represent and promote the interests of its members, which shall be employers active in the Information Technology Sector.” Furthermore, the ITA is defined as:

  • A body of members actively participating in issues and events, which directly or indirectly affect business.
  • The members initiate issues, which need attention at international and national governmental, NGO, para-statal and business level.
