ITA Producer Environmental Group has recently formulized its operating structure under the auspices of the ITA. The forum’s objective is to explore, review and implement cost and operationally effective compliance mechanisms for the management of WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment), as set forth in the Waste Act 2009 i.e. review of current eWASA Industry Waste Management Plan and any other plans, or to be developed plans etc.
The Waste Act requires industry/ producers (manufacturers/ importers/ distributors of WEEE product) to voluntary submit industry waste management plans to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
Since October 2014 the ITAPEG has been part of a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee to develop an E-Waste Industry Waste Management Plan (IndWMP) which has resulted in the formation of ERA NPC a non-profit company.
ERA NPC has registered with the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) as a Product Responsibility Organisation (PRO) for Electronic and Electrical Equipment goods on the South African market.
ERA NPC invites all stakeholders to make input into the ERA E-Waste IndWMP and to join ERA E-Waste Recycling Authority NPC. We encourage ITA members and non-members alike to participate in the consultation process, whether legally defined as a “Producer” or not.
At the website: www.eranpc.co.za you will find more information on ERA NPC, the ERA E-Waste IndWMP, as well as the schedule and process for engagement.
